Delimitation, location and attributes of the elements of geological interest identified in Catalonia that are included in the Inventory of Areas of Geological Interest of Catalonia published in 2000 and updated in 2020 and of those that have been identified in other inventories (carried out by the Geoparks of Central Catalonia and Orígens or the technical services of the natural parks) or scientific and informative publications. It also includes diagnostic sheets of impacts and threats of the areas of geological interest of Catalonia.

Areas of geological interest are places of interest due to their unique and/or representative character, which allow the study and interpretation of the origin and evolution of geological domains, including the processes that have shaped them, the climates of the past and their paleobiological evolution; and constitute the geological heritage of a territory.

The inventory update is part of the objectives of collaboration between the ICGC and the Directorate General of Environmental Policies and the Natural Environment (DGPAMN), both institutions of the Generalitat de Catalunya, and uses updated and unified methodologies for assessing the geological interest (scientific, informative and touristic) and the state of conservation of all elements (from the most regional to the most local). They can then be catalogued by importance or vulnerability (among others) in order to propose active geoconservation policies.
