Base Map Service
Global reference base for all those applications that require the consumption of information in WMS/WMTS formats quickly
The ICGC Base Map Service is intended to be used as a global reference base for all those applications that require the consumption of information in WMS/WMTS formats quickly.
The Base Map Service is generated from the products generated by the ICGC in the area of Catalonia (Territorial Topographic Reference, ContextMaps and Territorial Orthophoto) and, therefore, has the same cycle of updates as the products whose feeds, however, unlike the geoservices specific to the different products and due to this general reference map vocation, the Base Map service has worldwide coverage. Outside the territory of Catalonia, the database is completed with information from the OpenMapTiles/OpenStreetMaps projects.

The Pseudo-Mercator or Spherical Mercator projection was initially used by Google Maps and has now become a de facto standard for displaying maps on the web and display systems as it preserves shapes and angles locally and globally whole is projected as a square, introducing a large distortion in scale and areas, but facilitating successive subdivision into regular tiles of 256x256 pixels each. At zoom level 0, a single tile is generated for the entire world, and each tile is successively subdivided into four to create a 2zoom x 2zoom grid.
