PCP-WISE

Personalització/preoperacionalització de Innovacions per la gestió de l'aigua des de l’espai per a la resiliència climàtica europea

The objective of the project is to develop a comprehensive water intelligence system -using Earth observation data- as a prerequisite to anticipate the management of a critical resource, in the face of new extreme climatic conditions and their potential environmental and social impacts.

PCP-WISE is based on the results in terms of challenges and use cases of the previous PROTECT CSA project.

The main challenge of the PCP-WISE project is to develop and test innovative solutions for water management based on data from the segment-space, as base information for 3 crisis challenges (fires, floods and infrastructure impact).

The projects generated by PCP-WISE aim to successfully deliver innovative and fully tested products and/or services that meet the common needs of a group of buyers (consortium of buyers) to acquire research, develop innovative marketable solutions, accelerate time-to-market and provide the best value for money.

PCP-WISE will include the following activities:

  1. Preparation of the necessary documentation to initiate and execute procurement procedures.
  2. Joint research and innovation activities related to the customization of prototypes of end-user services in the field of climate change adaptation and mitigation.
  3. Joint procurement monitoring activities, such as awareness-raising activities, networking, training, evaluation, validation and dissemination of results.

The project has the following objectives:

  • Innovative solutions: DesDevelop and test state-of-the-art technologies for climate adaptation, using space and ground observation data.
  • Col·laboració transfronterera: Fostering cooperation between regional water management, cities, communities and crisis organisations in EU Member States.
  • Improved information system: Create common operational information products on local and regional systems in water, soil and climate management to improve decision-making.
  • Demand-driven approach: Establish an active user network for the exchange, validation and continuous improvement of climate services through the PCP approach.

Catalonia will lead Use Case 4: Drought and floods in rural areas, which deals with rural drought and flooding in Southern Europe, where structural drought periods and intense rainfall affect agricultural processes and cause significant production challenges.
