Lever-nivelé de la place de Barcelona (1823-1827), an exceptional map
The Service Historique de la Défence preserves a manuscript of the plan of Barcelona drawn up by the corps of military engineers of the French army between 1823 and 1827.
The map is at a scale of 1:1,000, with contour lines every meter and is based on geodetic triangulation. The scale of the map provides us with detailed information on the area outside the wall of the plan of Barcelona, as a military exclusion zone. The map is part of the collections of the Service Historique de la Défense and is preserved at the Chateau des Vincennes.

Description
Map at a scale of 1:1,000 of 54 sheets (65x65 cm): 8 sheets with irregular cut and 46 sheets with regular cut (650 x 650 m on each side). Calculated from 1823, the surveys of the sheets were carried out between 1825 and 1827.
It covers the military exclusion zone of Plaça de Barcelona (2,088 ha), that is the entire mountain of Montjuïc and the entire sector outside the city walls until the entrance to the village of Gràcia and in the northeast until the beginning of Clot and Poble Nou.
Although the urban core of the city was not mapped, the entire profile of the coast and the Barceloneta neighborhood were drawn until they connect with Montjuïc. When all the sheets are assembled together, there is a hole in the middle that corresponds to the intramural area.
The altimetry is in contour lines drawn every meter. The reference level with a value of 100 meters is located at the entrance to Montjuïc Castle.
The planimetry draws, in colors, fortifications, buildings, roads, hydrographic network, land uses and toponymy.
