Boreholes in the service of society
Transfer of SOCOTEC borehole data to the Institut Cartogràfic i Geològic de Catalunya (ICGC)
(formerly Bosch i Ventayol, Bac and Tecsòl archives, now SOCOTEC)
Having prior access to geotechnical borehole data, such as that now being transferred by SOCOTEC to the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia (ICGC) for publication in the Borehole Database of Catalonia, is crucial for the proper planning of structures and infrastructures at the preliminary design stage, without prejudice to the legally required geological investigations that must be conducted for each project.
This is particularly important in urban areas, often characterised by scarce outcrops, where prior geological knowledge of the subsurface is essential.
