Collection of monoliths
A monolith is a vertical section of soil profile that is preserved and preserved in its natural condition
The ICGC monolith collection consists of a representative sample of the variety of soils in the Catalan Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees.
In this collection you can see soil profiles of the main reference groups. Monoliths are a very valuable tool for soil knowledge, since they allow, in the same physical place, to observe the diversity of soils, understand the processes and forming factors, discover the functions, understand and contextualize the uses of the soil and facilitate access to the associated information to all visitors and scientists who want to use it.
The monolith collection exhibited at the Pyrenees Soil Interpretation Centre (CISP) has 42 specimens as of September 2023.
