Travertine limestone

 

Rock type: carbonate sedimentary rock

Age: about 125,000 years. Quaternary period (Pleistocene).

Characteristics: very porous and light but very resilient.

Formation environment: waterfalls, upwellings, and lakes or ponds where carbonated waters circulate on vegetation.

Uses: construction material and as ornamental stone.

Origin of the block: Conques, Isona and Conca Dellà (Pallars Jussà).
