Griotte compte limestone
Rock type: carbonate sedimentary
Age: between 387 and 355 million years. Devonian period (Upper Devonian, Facies Griotte Compte).
Characteristics: composed of calcium carbonate nodules, with fossil remains of goniatite shells, surrounded by maroon-colored manganese and iron minerals which gives the rock its high density.
Formation environment: deep marine areas.
Uses: building materials and ornamental rock.
Origin of the block: Espaén, la Guàrdia d’Ares, Les Valls d’Aguilar (Alt Urgell).
