Granite and schist

 

Rock type: igneous and metamorphic.

Age: about 295 million years. Permian period (Cisuralian).

Characteristics: composed of quartz, feldspar and minerals from the mica family.

Formation environment: medium depths within the Earth's crust. The rocks that melted completely formed the granites when they cooled and crystallized. Those who did not achieve the degree of fusion were transformed into schist due to metamorphism.

Uses: building materials and ornamental rock.

Origin of the block: Les (Vall d'Aran).
