Grey sandstone

 

Rock type: detrital sedimentary.

Age: between 72 and 83 million years. Cretaceous period (Campanian).

Characteristics: composed of grains of sand of diverse origin and clay, transported by currents of turbidity. Several types of sole marks are preserved on the surface of these blocks.

Formation environment: deep marine areas, near the submarine slope.

Uses: building materials and as a decorative element.

Origin of the block: Toralla, Conca de Dalt (Pallars Jussà).
