Bioclastic limestone I

 

Rock type: carbonate sedimentary.

Age: about 80 million years. Cretaceous (Campanian) period.

Characteristics: composed of sand grains and shell fragments from marine organisms (mollusks and microfossils).

Formation environment: shallow marine areas, close to the coast.

Uses: sand and gravel and as construction material.

Origin of the block: Gavet de la Conca (Pallars Jussà).
