Plan for the mitigation of geological risk in Montserrat

The ICGC intervenes in the Plan for the mitigation of geological risk in Montserrat

El Montserrat Mountain Board and the ICGC collaborate on the Plan for the Mitigation of Geological Risk in Montserrat (hereinafter PMRGM), which was launched following the rockfall episodes of 2007 and 2008 in the Degotalls sector and 2010 at the Cisneros hotel. The PMRGM plan is designed following a strategy shared by all the actors involved in the Montserrat mountain with a comprehensive vision for geological risk management.

The principle governing the PMRGM plan is the progressive improvement of safety, which is materialized in a set of coordination actions, and risk prevention and protection.

The PMRGM also disseminates to the population the actions that are being carried out, in order to make the improvements in safety known.

The work carried out is of high scientific and technical interest, due to the uniqueness of the problem and the effort in applying new techniques and methodologies. For this reason, the transfer of mutual knowledge with Catalan universities is stimulated and, at the same time, experiences are shared with international research centers.
