  • The Eduard Brossa Collection will mainly include manuscripts: workbooks, correspondence and documentation on the preparation of maps.

This morning, in the room of the Governing Council of the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia (ICGC), the donation of part of the documentary legacy of Eduard Brossa i Trullàs, a cartographer, engraver and lithographer from Sabadell from the 19th and early 20th centuries, was formalised. The agreement was signed by the director of the ICGC, Antonio Magariños, and three members of the Brossa family: Maria Assumpció Batlle, Eduard Conti and Cristina Tomàs, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the cartographer.
The collection, mainly manuscripts, is considered to be of high historical value for its contribution to the history of cartography in Catalonia. Among the documents, the most notable are notebooks with field work carried out in various areas of Catalonia, especially in Tibidabo, Montjuïc and other towns around Barcelona.

The ICGC will safeguard these materials, digitize them and guarantee their public consultation. In this way, the numerous printed maps made by Brossa, which are already part of the Cartoteca de Catalunya, will be complemented. In addition, a web space will be created to give visibility to the legacy of Eduard Brossa and its dissemination will be promoted through educational and narrative resources.

With this donation, the figure of Eduard Brossa is to be recognized, who contributed significantly to the geographical knowledge of Catalonia with his topographical work and his close collaboration with figures such as Jaume Almera, a pioneer of Catalan geology.
With the signing of the agreement, the legacy of Eduard Brossa begins a new stage, accessible to the public and to future generations of cartography and research professionals.
