We strengthen the geoinformation and space sector from the regions

  • On 22 and 23 October, we took part in the European Symposium 2026 in Bologna, where we presented a challenge on fire protection strips and held six sessions with potential providers.

At the ICGC, we took part in the European Symposium 2026, held in Bologna on 22 and 23 October 2026. There, together with the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC), we presented a challenge on fire protection strips, within the framework of the Catalonia Space Strategy 2030, and held six Business-to-Government (B2G) matchmaking sessions with potential providers.

On 23 October, during the plenary session, we gave the presentation Fostering Innovation Towards Space Based Services, prepared in coordination with the Catalan company SPASCAT. In it, we highlighted our drive, as a public-sector body, to strengthen and improve the Catalan business ecosystem in the field of use cases based on space data.

The B2G matchmaking session is one of the symposium’s distinguishing features: public administrations set out real needs and technology providers propose solutions based on space technologies and artificial intelligence (AI).

From the space sector’s perspective, the symposium is particularly relevant because it reinforces the shift from a data-generation model to one oriented towards services and public impact. The combination of satellite data, regional data infrastructures and AI capabilities fits fully with European priorities linked to Copernicus, data spaces and digital sovereignty strategies. It also enables a direct connection between the needs of the regions and the innovation offer of the European space sector.

The European Symposium 2026 was organised by NEREUS Regions, in collaboration with the Emilia-Romagna Region and ART-ER, under the motto “Space Data powered by Data Valleys and AI Factories”. It was conceived as a meeting point for public administrations, research centres, companies and stakeholders of the European space ecosystem to explore how Earth observation data, data infrastructures and AI can respond to territorial challenges across European regions.
