We integrate the Building Information Modeling (BIM) methodology into the reference territorial cartography

  • We make available IFC, the territorial topographic cartography adapted to BIM.
  • The BIM methodology is a tool for use in the design, construction and management of infrastructures and buildings.
  • This implementation is part of the BIM 2030 Strategy, approved by the Government of Catalonia.

At the ICGC, we have incorporated the IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) format into our reference territorial cartography to facilitate integration with the BIM (Building Information Modeling) methodology. In this way, we contribute to the implementation of the Generalitat's BIM 2030 Strategy and move towards a more digital, efficient and interoperable management of the territory.

With this action, we reinforce our role as a benchmark in the generation of quality geospatial data, now adapted to the new standards of the administration, architecture, engineering and construction sectors. The objects included in this format of the Territorial Topographic Reference provide information on relief, hydrography, transport, land cover, constructions and toponymy. This data places projects within their real environment, and facilitates better decision-making from design to maintenance, with the aim of making our information useful and accessible to all agents involved in the planning and execution of public and private infrastructures.

Within this framework, the General Directorate of Mobility Infrastructures of the Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition has approved an instruction to promote the use of detailed cartography of Catalonia in the IFC format in the Generalitat's mobility infrastructure projects and works.
