Update of the Geological Map of Catalonia at 1:50,000 scale
You can now consult and download the updated Geological Map of Catalonia at a scale of 1:50,000.
With the aim of supporting more informed and sustainable land management, we have introduced significant improvements to both content and format. These include the harmonisation of geological unit descriptions, a revision of their ages in accordance with the current International Geological Time Scale and new dating data, the identification of the main geological structures across the territory, and the correction of errors detected in previous versions.
The map is organised into four information layers -geological units, geological contacts, folds and faults- allowing for a detailed analysis of the composition and structure of the terrain.
This new version is consolidated as a reference tool for professionals and public administrations in fields such as territorial planning, civil engineering, water resources management and geological risk assessment, and aligns with the Government’s commitment to digitalisation and the ecological transition.
The map is available through the OpenICGC open data portal and can also be viewed using the VISSIR and Geoíndex Territorial Geology viewers.
