The ICGC hosts the field trip and the 2nd General Assembly of the European project GO-Forward
- EntreBetween September 14 and 18, the ICGC hosted various activities of the European project GO-Forward, combining field work on fractured systems in crystalline rocks and work sessions to advance the project's tools and case studies.
From September 14 to 16, the ICGC has organized the field trip “Fractured systems in crystalline rocks on the Catalan Coastal Ranges”, aimed at members of the European project GO-Forward. The activity has been developed in the Vallès basin and on the coast of the Costa Brava, with the objective of studying outcrops that are analogous to geothermal reservoirs in fractured granitic basements and to evaluate their geothermal potential.

Throughout the different stops, the participants were able to analyze the location and composition of the granitoids, the fracture networks and the structural and hydrothermal evolution of the granitic bodies. The field observations and measurements have been supplemented with regional information, figures and interpretive notes, with the aim of encouraging discussion and joint analysis among the members of the project. For the development of the field trip, the ICGC has had the collaboration of the Geotectonics Unit of the Geology Department of the UAB and Ciments Molins, which has facilitated access to its granite quarries in Llinars del Vallès and Sant Fost de Campsentelles.

On September 17 and 18, the ICGC headquarters hosted the 2nd General Assembly of GO-Forward. The meeting allowed a review of the status of the project and the main advances achieved, as well as coordinating the activities planned for the next phases.

During the Assembly, parallel workshops were held to share and discuss the advances in reservoir modeling tools, the evaluation of induced seismicity and the techno-economic calculation tools that are being developed. The evolution of the project's different case studies has also been reviewed, including the case of Catalonia in crystalline basement, located in the Vallès basin.
The European project GO-Forward (“Geothermal Exploration and Optimization through Forward Modeling and Resource Development”), aims to advance the knowledge, characterization and exploitation of deep geothermal resources associated with fractured rock reservoirs, through the development and integration of new methodologies. The project seeks to contribute to reducing the uncertainties and risks associated with the development of these resources and favor the deployment of deep geothermal energy as a source of renewable energy and proximity to Europe.
