The ICGC begins the winter season with the dissemination of the Avalanche Danger Bulletin

12/11/2025 13:00

Like every winter season, we launch actions to inform the population that lives or does activities in mountain areas about the snow conditions and the danger of avalanches.

We begin the daily emission of the Avalanche Danger Bulletins (BPA) and the snow notes to inform about the stability and distribution of the snow cover in the Catalan Pyrenees.

The ICGC begins the winter season with the dissemination of the Avalanche Danger Bulletin

The winter season begins with the snow notes, which describe the distribution of the snow on the ground and its stability. When there is sufficient snow, the BPA are also started for each of the seven areas of the Catalan Pyrenees, from Monday to Saturday and, usually, until the month of May.

With the BPA we show, with icons and explanatory text, the degree of avalanche danger (from 1, weak, to 5, very strong), the main problem, the most dangerous directions and heights and the size of the predicted avalanches. They are an essential tool for the safety of mountain users, as they allow them to prepare their outings in advance.

To complement the BPA, we carry out the servei InfoGruixNEU, which represents the daily thickness of snow on the ground at eight points in the Pyrenees located above 2,000 meters and shows whether the snowfall is normal, surplus or deficit. This service operates from October to June 15.
