Geoinformation and new space economy: The ICGC at the NewSpace Economy Congress 2025
On July 3 and 4, the fifth edition of the NewSpace Economy Congress NSEC2025 (https://www.newspacecongress.cat/), was held in Barcelona, which this year had the Occitanie region as the main guest. Organized under the direction of the Chamber of Commerce and KIMbcn, the congress has continued to grow and this edition has had more than 900 registered participants. Seeking contact between the public and private sectors and promoting innovation and talent in Catalonia, NSEC 2025 has constituted one of the main tools for promoting and fostering the sector linked to the use, exploitation and generation of applications of infrastructures in space, within the framework of the Newspace Catalonia strategy (https://politiquesdigitals.gencat.cat/ca/economia/estrategia-new-space-catalunya/index.html).
Moderation, by the ICGC, of the round table on the role that space technologies can play in disaster and emergency management.
The NewSpace Catalonia strategy is an initiative of the Government of Catalonia and, since its foundation in 2020, the I2CAT foundation, the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC) and the ICGC have been its main pillars.
The ICGC has participated in the organizing committee of NSEC 2025, in moderating a round table, in presenting a paper in one of the workshops on the emergency service of the European Galileo satellite system, with a stand and in bilateral meetings (B2B) with actors from the academic and business fields of Catalonia and around the world, among other activities.
The need for coordination and cooperation between public and private actors, regarding the use and exploitation of infrastructures in space, has been one of the most prominent points. Likewise, it has been shown that it is a key sector in the generation of new geoinformation at the level of data, information and decision support tools, and one of the sectors of innovation and economic activity that generates and will generate more talent, return and growth in the near future.
