July 2010 the ICC published the 4th edition of the Topographic Atlas of Catalonia (paper).

This edition has 448 pages, 202 of them correspond to the topographic map 1:50000. It is enriched with new cartographic bases, as the road map 1:275000, divided in 12 pages and completed with the enlargement of main urban areas at 1:130.000, and the municipality and shire map 1:500000, divided in 4 pages.

The body of specific cartography is also preceded by a section with general cartography, mainly related to Catalonia and Europe, with maps complemented with tables including numerical and text data: population, area, distances along road, main peaks, rivers and ponds, and name of the inhabitants of shires and Europe states and capitals. All this information wants to complement the Atlas with significant data about territory and its population.

Information included in the Atlas comes mainly from the ICC cartographic bases at the same scale. Content of the map 1:50000 is structured in: altimetry, vegetable cover, planimetry, thematic and touristic information, and nature reserves. Planimetric information comes from the topographic map at the same scale and information about roads comes from the Direcció General de Carreteres (DPTOP) and the Ministerio de Fomento.

Also come from external sources long-distance tracks (Federació d'Entitats Excursionistes de Catalunya) and nature reserves and included in PEIN (DMAH). Place names have been transcribed according to the Nomenclàtor oficial de toponímia major de Catalunya (2nd edition, 2009) published by the Generalitat de Catalunya and checked by the Institut d'Estudis Catalans and respective city councils.

To facilitate reading with territorial continuity, each page with cartography has an overlapping band with neighbor pages.

The other important part of the Atlas is the place names index, longer than previous editions. It has been divided in 3 parts:

• General: with all place names (54316) included in the atlas at any scale.

• Second index has all villages (5271) ordered by shires and municipalities.

• Las has 947 municipalities of Catalonia ordered alphabetically.

Geographic concept, municipality, shire, map page and scale, and UTM coordinate of the name, are included for each place name.

The Atlas allows a lot of uses and offers precise answers both the novel users and the experimented reader.
