The Catalan Atlas of 1375 is a legendary work of Catalan culture, and for this reason, this year marks the commemoration of the 650th anniversary of its creation. Nevertheless, the heritage value attributed to it as the earliest known example of a new type of cartography has often led to its being regarded as a unique and highly revolutionary piece. In reality, however, it represents a cartographic style that was fairly widespread at the time, incorporating knowledge shared across the Christian Western Mediterranean. The aim of this seminar, therefore, is to place the work within the cultural context of its production and to highlight the role of the monarchs of the House of Barcelona as key promoters of its development.
