GT IV. Soil map 1:25,000. Project deployment
Foreword
The 1:25,000 Soil Map of Catalonia (MSC25M), produced in collaboration with the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda (DACC) and the ICGC, was launched in 2009 with the aim of achieving continuous coverage of the entire territory of Catalonia with a homogeneous and high-quality soil base, acquired from office, field and laboratory work, in order to disseminate the knowledge acquired.
Until 2020, the MSC25M was produced within the Geoworks programme as GT-IV Soil Map 1:25,000, published in paper form and distributed digitally in GeoPDF and Esri Shapefile formats. From 2021, the paper publication of the MSC25M will be stopped and since then all soil mapping at a scale of 1:25,000 is published in a single file in Esri Shapefile digital format that can be downloaded from the 1:25,000 Soil Map (continuous) page and can be consulted from the Geoindex-Soils viewer and the ICGC Soils WMS geoservices.
The Soil Map is a soil content map that covers the entire surface of Catalonia, divided into 304 sheets defined according to the official 1:25,000 cut. The availability of information on the physical and chemical constitution of soils, as a limited and non-renewable resource, is essential for land management in the agricultural, territorial planning, civil engineering and environmental aspects in the broadest sense of the term.
Field soil information is mainly obtained by performing test pits with a density of 0.25 comments per square centimeter of the final map on agricultural land and 0.125 square centimeter observations of the final map on forest land. Again, include the importance of the collaboration of municipalities, which facilitate the implementation aspects of the pits and collection of field data. The samples are subjected to various types of analysis to determine various parameters such as the organic carbon content, salinity, grain size and other parameters that define the different types of soils.
The legend of the sheets in the format of publication is divided into physiographic units, and within them, geomorphological units. Each unit contains a number of geomorphological mapping units, which represent groups of soil characteristics.
