Images from the ‘Menut’ satellite mission are openly available to everyone
- The Menut Viewer is launched, developed by the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia (ICGC) within the framework of the NewSpace Strategy of Catalonia.
- With this interactive tool, you can consult and download the processed images from the first Earth Observation satellite mission promoted by the Government and managed by the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC).
Yesterday, February 5, the Secretary of Digital Policies of the Department of Business and Labor, Maria Galindo, announced the launch of the Menut Viewer, in an event in which the director of the ICGC, Antonio Magariños, and the director of the Space Sector Promotion Area of the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC), Josep Colomé, also participated..

This viewer offers, openly and for everyone, the processed images from the first Earth Observation satellite mission of the NewSpace Strategy of Catalonia and allows them to be downloaded and used for various purposes (business, professional, academic, personal).
The viewer is a key tool to facilitate the development of innovative applications based on satellite images to address challenges in different sectors and promote business competitiveness, efficient land management and adaptation to climate change. It brings together 42 years of ICGC experience in Earth observation and has been designed with the aim of being used by both professionals in the sector and anyone who may need it. It has functionalities that facilitate access, viewing and downloading of images, and make its use agile and intuitive.

The functionalities of the Menut Viewer facilitate access and download of information.
In the viewer you can find images of Catalonia with different levels of processing which, due to their characteristics, offer various possibilities in six major areas::
- Dissemination: They facilitate the creation of content to disseminate the characteristics and possibilities of this type of data.
- Training: They allow the generation of training content to explain the main techniques and methodologies of Earth Observation and to analyze and process this data.
- Interpretation: They allow a visual or digital analysis to determine and delimit elements of the landscape and identify objects and land covers of the territory.
- Analysis of the spectral response: They allow the analysis and discrimination of different covers and generate spectral indices that facilitate the knowledge of the territory and its state.
- Determination of biophysical variables: With the information collected in the spectral bands, they allow the values of biophysical variables to be obtained.
- Detection of temporal changes: Based on data sets taken at different times, changes in the territory can be analyzed.
The viewer also displays and allows downloading images of Catalonia from Sentinel-2, a mission of the European Union's Copernicus program.
