Catalonia and the exploitation of Sentinel-1 data. Use case selected for the Copernicus User Experience, presented at Living Planet 2025
The joint initiative of the European Commission, the European Space Agency (ESA), and NEREUS (Network of European Regions Using Space Technologies) called Copernicus4regions leads the visualization, knowledge, and regional experiences in the use of space data.
In this regard, NEREUS works on selecting applications of Copernicus Earth observation data, which show the impact of using Copernicus on citizens and the work of administrations.
Catalonia, as an active member of NEREUS through the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC) and within the framework of the NewSpace Catalonia Strategy, promotes and encourages activities related to satellite data exploitation capabilities in the Catalan territory.
The work carried out at the ICGC has been chosen as a pilot experience of the new Copernicus User Experience platform, which was presented at the Earth Observation Arena at the Living Planet 2025 congress (Vienna, June 23-27).

NEREUS presentation of the new Copernicus User Experience platform, featuring the use case of Catalonia
Through new technological resources that favor interactivity and knowledge transmission, the pilot experience presented is the work of the Earth Observation and Geological Engineering and Risk areas of the ICGC, together with ESA, NEREUS, and IEEC, on the products and services generated at the ICGC from Copernicus data from the Sentinel-1 satellite. The pilot experience takes us to the study of movement measurements, particularly in understanding the exploitation of aquifers and the management of water resources carried out jointly with the Catalan Water Agency (ACA).
