Geological map of Catalonia 1:250,000
The Geological Map of Catalonia 1:250,000 is a summary of the geological constitution of Catalonia through the cartographic representation of geological units of lithostratigraphic character, of the major structural elements (unconformities, faults and folds) and of the type of contact between units. The location of the boreholes carried out for hydrocarbon exploration is also included.
The details with the descriptions of the different elements of this page (geological units, contacts, etc.) are shown as attributes in vector formats and can also be consulted through the Geoindex Geological Cartography viewer by clicking on each element. Additionally, the Technical Specifications document of the Geological Map 1:250,000 includes the corresponding legend.

New features of the 3rd Edition
- The cartography includes part of the French territory and Aragon taken from the geological maps published by the Bureau de Recherches Geológicos et Minières de France and the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain.
- The tectonic structures have been updated from the Structural Map of Catalonia scale 1:250,000, published by the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia in 2014.
- The plutonic and hypabyssal igneous rocks and the metamorphic rocks have been integrated into the chronostratigraphic legend and no longer form independent legend blocks. Based on recent publications, the Neoproterozoic geological units of the Nordpyrenean Massifs and the eastern Pyrenees and the Neogene units in the west of the Cinca River have been differentiated.
The geological ages of the rocks that make up the cartographic units have been updated and chromatically harmonized with the International Chronostratigraphic Table of the year 2023 of the International Commission on Stratigraphy. This update has entailed the change of name of series and ages with respect to previous editions:
