With the aim of becoming a reference center for the collection of information and dissemination of mountain soils, the Pyrenees Territorial Support Center (CSTP) of the ICGC created the Pyrenees Soil Interpretation Center (CISP).
This is a section of the CSTP and has the following objectives:
- Acquire information about the soils of the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees.
- Disseminate and promote the importance of soils in their agricultural and environmental aspects.
- Offer a collection of representative soil monoliths from the Pre-Pyrenees and Catalan Pyrenees, both for study and dissemination.
- Become a reference center for mountain soils.
The most relevant projects currently being worked on are:
- Experimental network for measuring physical soil parameters. The purpose of the project is to determine the climatic regime of the soils, collect agronomic support data for agriculture, and carry out environmental studies on climate change and hydrological studies.
- Soil monoliths. Monoliths are a very valuable material for the study of soils and for the dissemination of the constitution and functions of the soil environment. At a scientific and educational level, the aim is to study the horizons of a soil, show its morphological characteristics, understand the processes and factors of soil formation, facilitate the analysis of the variation between one type of soil and another, and deepen the knowledge of the soil. A permanent exhibition is set up to show the collection of available soil monoliths.
