Metadata give information about the geoinformation or the spatial data service they are referred to.
About the geoinformation, besides identifying the dataset, also information about spatial representation, reference system, contents, date of flight, quality and distribution, are provided, explicitly or referring the user to the product specifications or the elaboration process.
About the services, besides identifying the service, also information about distribution, link to the service, service geographic extent, reference system or systems used by the service and service quality, are provided, explicitly or referring the user to the specifications and/or requirements they fulfill.
Almost all the cartography that can be downloaded or acquired in the ICGC attach an XML file with metadata. To view it properly, download the following ZIP and unzip it in the same folder.

Additional technical information
To generate the geoinformation metadata (IDEC profile for datasets v4.0), the ICGC takes as reference the standard ISO19115:2003 "Geographic information - Metadata" and its technical corrections.
To generate the service metadata (IDEC profile for services v1.0), the ICGC takes as reference the standard ISO19119:2005 "Geographic Information – Services" (Amendment 1 of 2008).
