Conglomerate

 

Rock type: detrital sedimentary.

Age: between 45 and 35 million years. Paleogene period (Eocene).

Characteristics: composed of rock fragments of diverse size, shape, and composition. It Includes pebbles (rounded grains bigger than 2 mm in diameter), matrix (elements smaller than 2 mm in diameter) and cement (calcareous or siliceous).

Formation environment: fluvial or alluvial areas and on slopes, the process of mass movements.

Uses: construction materials and sand and gravel.

Origin of the block: Pessonada, Conca de Dalt (Pallars Jussà).
