The ICGC, selected among the most outstanding use cases in Europe in the SEBS 2026 program!
On May 20, the ICGC participated in the SeBS360 - From Sentinel Benefits Study to Observatory - Exchange Workshop, an initiative promoted by the European Association of Remote Sensing Companies and the European Space Agency - ESA to highlight the economic, social and environmental benefits of services based on satellite data from the Copernicus ECMWF program.
The ICGC's collaboration with the SEBS program began in 2024 as a result of European interest in products and services developed with Sentinel data. With the impetus of the Catalan Water Agency as the end user, the project developed by the ICGC uses Sentinel-1 data and artificial intelligence architectures to detect possible cases of overexploitation of aquifers.
This work has been recognized as one of the most representative use cases in Europe in the field of water resources management and selected from only 6 European cases presented at the workshop, along with initiatives from France, Germany, Italy and Denmark.
The impact of the project has also led to its incorporation as an initial pilot of the Destination Earth – Copernicus User Experience platform, promoted by ESA and NEREUS, with the support of the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia as the representative of Catalonia.
The workshop, held online, brought together more than 65 institutional and business representatives linked to Earth observation services based on satellite data.
From Catalonia, the ICGC and the IEEC reinforced the need to promote new use cases within the Catalan ecosystem and to enhance satellite data validation and calibration infrastructures to guarantee the quality, trust and impact of the services intended for end users.
Main activities to promote the benefits of the Copernicus program, presented by the ESA's Directorate of Earth Observations Programmes, where the use case of Catalonia stands out in the Sentinel Benefits Study section.
