The Map Library of the Cartographic Institute of Catalonia is a pilot tool to georeference 1000 old maps of Catalonia and the world that are part of the collections of the Digital Map Library.
This is an online tool, easy to use and to the general public, allowing users to assign coordinates to old maps from home and showing them on the present territory.
It is a simple and fun process, apart from an excellent exercise for recognition of the territory and geography, where users compete in number of georeferenced maps. The fifth most active users will visit the Map Library indoors. Other institutions like the British Library and the National Library of Scotland have launched similar initiatives with great success.
