1885-1939

Photograph of the clouds taken on 8th July 1932 (ref. CTC-SMC660C-D2897)

Collection made up by the documentation of the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya since the late nineteenth century to 1939. The service, created in 1921, was concerned to recover and get together the legacy of the meteorological and climatological research existing in Catalonia until then. For this reason, a considerable part of the collection has its origins from other institutions predecessors or contemporary from the Servei Meteorològic. The main ones are the Xarxa Meteorològica de la Granja Escola Experimental d'Agricultura, the Observatori Català, the Observatori de les Escoles Pies de Sabadell, the Societat Astronòmica de Barcelona and the Fundació Concepció Rabell d'Estudis Nefològics. You will find meteorological data, administrative documents, correspondence and abundant graphic documentation.

Admission data: The service was requised and removed in 1939. Since that date, all these documents became part of the Instituto Nacional de Meteorología. In 1983 were given back to the Generalitat de Catalunya and were deposited in the Institut Cartogràfic de Catalunya. In 2000 a co-operation agreement was signed between the Departament de Medi Ambient, the Institut Cartogràfic de Catalunya and the Institut d'Estudis Catalans, to make a stock list, a task that ended in 2002. In 2006 Mr. Rafel Carreras Patxot and Mrs. Núria Delétra Carreras Patxot formalized the donation of the material that belonged to the Fundació Concepció Rabell and was integrated in the historical collection of the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya.
